Travis Martinez, AKA Commander in Beef at TX Bar Organics in Red Bluff, is a second-generation cattleman with a big dream for his company and a big heart for his community.
As a young man, raising cows for a living didn’t interest Travis. In fact, when he graduated from Red Bluff High, his goal was to move as far away from his family’s ranch as possible. He left for San Diego State University that fall, but it didn’t take long for him to realize that home truly is where the heart is. After graduating with a BA in business and marketing Travis returned to Red Bluff to work with his father who had been selling organic beef to Whole Foods for several years.
Because not every family had access to Whole Foods, or his family’s organic beef, Travis thought it would be a good idea to expand distribution. In 2011 Travis launched TX Bar Organics, an online market that sells 100% USDA certified organic, grass-fed, grass-finished, Black Angus beef.
Since then his business has doubled each year. Though he has found huge success, Travis is proud to say that his customers won’t experience any corporate mumbo jumbo when doing business with him. Not only does he find it extremely boring, it just isn’t what TX Bar is all about.
Travis and his family have specific goals in mind when it comes to their calf-cow operation: to taking care of their land, their cattle and their neighbors. This means that their cattle are never fed grain, hormones or antibiotics. And, their pastures are certified organic, which means the grasslands are free of toxic pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers. In other words, TX Bar Organics beef is the cleanest around.
Though growing grass-fed beef takes more time than traditionally grown beef – 24-30 months versus 18-22 months – it’s these sustainable practices that ensure TX Bar beef is the most tender you can buy. Customers can purchase certified organic steaks, roasts, ground beef, stew meat and ribs 24 hours a day at TXBarOrganics.com. Orders exceeding $175 receive free shipping.
When Travis isn’t out riding the range checking on his cows or in the office handling marketing and online sales, he is busy helping his community. Travis and his family started Food for a Cause, a campaign to feed local families in need. For every 20 pounds of beef sold, TX Bar donates 1 pound of beef to North State Food Bank.
