Roots run deep at Pacific Farms & Orchards, Inc., a third-generation, family-owned and -operated farm situated in Gerber at the northern end of California’s fertile Central Valley. Since 1952, the Flynn family has been producing orchard crops such as almonds, prunes and walnuts. Most recently, they’ve diversified further, adding olive oil to their list of offerings.
Jane Flynn, owner of Pacific Farms, grew up in Pacific Palisades, a suburb of Los Angeles. Though she wasn’t raised around agriculture, Jane became involved with her husband’s family farm after moving to Gerber as a new bride. She and her husband Vince raised their six children on their farm, with Vince handling the day-to-day operations until his untimely death in 1986. Feeling a deep commitment to the men who worked for her family, Jane took over, keeping the farm afloat. Today, her son Brendon Flynn is the general manager.
In 2001, Pacific Sun Olive Oil, a division of Pacific Farms, began producing extra virgin olive oils from locally sourced olives. Over the years Pacific Sun olive oils have won gold and silver medals at prestigious events like the California Olive Oil Competition, Los Angeles International Olive Oil Competition and Napa Valley Olive Oil Competition.

From harvesting methods to specialized crushing techniques and from careful malaxing to state-of-the-art filtering, Pacific Sun processes olives onsite using progressive milling techniques that are focused on quality, freshness and the nutritional aspects of the oils. Once the oils are filtered they are stored in small batches and blended according to strict quality control procedures. Each batch is then individually tested, tasted and tracked.
The other element that sets Pacific Sun apart is its team, which includes 30 year-round employees whose average tenure is more than 17 years. Some have been with the company for more than 30 years, making team members more like family than employees.
