The Craig family, Tehama Trail’s April Featured Farmer and owners of the Olive Pit in Corning, invites you to visit with local winemakers and experience the flavors of North State wines at their month-long Meet the Winemaker event.

Olive Pit Tasting Bar

“Each weekend during the month of April we’ll feature a different winemaker who will offer tastings of their most recent wines,” says Hannah Boeldt, assistant manager for Olive Pit. “We want to get the word out that we have great local wines available. Everyone knows about Napa Valley, but they may not know that we have wonderful wines right here in Tehama County.”

To kick things off, Bertagna Winery of Chico will showcase their fine wines on Saturday, April 5 from 12 - 2pm. New Clarivaux Vineyard of Vina will offer tastings on Friday, April 11 from 1 – 5 pm. And during Rodeo Weekend, on Friday, April 18 from 11 to 3:30, Red Bluff’s Tehama Oaks Winery will be pouring Red Rock Red Blend, named after Red Bluff’s most famous rodeo bull. The winery for the last weekend is to be determined. All events are free.

In addition to the winemaker event, “If you come into the store anytime in April and mention Tehama Trail or Featured Farmer you’ll receive a free sample of Olive Pit’s house wine, Road Trip Red,” says Boeldt.

For nearly 50 years the Craig family has been offering travelers and locals a place to rest, grab a bite to eat and purchase locally produced olives. Today, three generations of the Craig family still provide the same old-fashioned service. Over the years, they have expanded their inventory to include a huge selection of fine foods: gourmet olives, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, nuts, candy, fine wine and craft beer.

Event goers should plan to make a day of it sampling gourmet olives like Martini Style Pimiento Stuffed, Texas Hot Chili and Bleu Jalapeno Stuffed at Olive Pit’s well-stocked tasting bar. Several varieties of olive oil from Tehama County and California, and traditional and fruity balsamic vinegars complete the tasting experience.

Before heading home, visitors can purchase a tasty bite at Olive Pit Café where they get to create the ultimate burger or deli sandwich at the build-it-yourself bar. Don’t forget to try one of Olive Pit’s famous milkshakes – traditional chocolate or vanilla, or specialty shakes made with fruity balsamic vinegar or flavored olive oil.

Olive Pit, located at 2156 Solano Street in Corning, is a store, tasting bar and café offering the best of Northern California fare. Owned and operated by the Craig family, Olive Pit has been a popular pit stop for travelers on the I-5 corridor since 1967. For more information, call (530) 824-4667.
