Have you ever seen a walnut crop shaken from a tree, or cracked open a freshly harvested walnut to taste the soft, moist kernel inside? This month you’ll have the chance to do both at the Bianchi Orchards Day at the Orchard event in Los Molinos.

Harvest at Bianchi Orchards

On October 26, from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Annie and Ray Bianchi, owners of Bianchi Orchards, along with their children, Robbie, Becky, Eddie, Julie and Katie, will open their farm to those curious about where their food comes from.

“We’re going to have harvest tours, three cooking demos, live music and wine tasting featuring local Tehama Trail wineries,” says Katie Bianchi. “The event is free and open to the public. A BBQ lunch will be available for purchase.”

Since 1976, the Bianchi’s have been dedicated to producing premium, family-farmed products. Today, the Chandler walnut, a large, mild-flavored nut, is what they’re known for. All Bianchi Orchard products, including shelled walnuts, glazed walnuts, chocolate-covered walnuts and walnut oil are hand-packaged with care just steps from the family home, a 1920s farmhouse tucked into lush walnut orchards and riparian forest.

Day at the Orchard will offer an afternoon filled with family, food and fun. While some event goers sample premium Chandler walnuts or kick back in the shade listening to live music, others will browse local edibles like jams, olive oil and dressings as well as artisan kitchen items like handcrafted pie birds at the Bianchi Orchards restored 1920s barn nut shop.

“For the adventurous, we’ll have two orchard tours, one at 11:00 and another at 1:30,” says Katie. “They’ll fill up fast so make reservations soon.”
